SAI Global develops new program aimed to combat abuse suffered by Vulnerable Adults
14 March 2007, Kenilworth, United Kingdom - SAI Global, a leader in web-based training and awareness solutions, has launched an adult protection program aimed at preventing vulnerable adults from suffering abuse and neglect at the hands of their carers.

SAI Global’s e-learning program, originally developed for the Wakefield Council, a UK government entity, is designed to educate and empower staff working with vulnerable adults. Using a series of interactive scenarios, the course will train staff to identify the kind of behavior that constitutes abuse, explain the policies regarding abuse and the procedures to report incidents or suspected incidents of abuse.

The United Kingdom has seen a 62% rise in reported incidents of abuse of vulnerable adults over the last year. In the United States, reports indicate that almost 2 million vulnerable Americans have been abused by their caregivers and that only one in five of these cases were reported to authorities.

Commenting on the new course, Wakefield Council’s Project Leader said: “The practical examples and scenarios used throughout the program have been very effective in ensuring our staff understands what is expected of them.”

According to the head of Compliance at SAI Global, Terry Hancock: “We are committed to helping government deliver training to deal with sensitive and, at times, difficult issues. I hope this program will help eliminate abuse of vulnerable adults by educating those who care for them in a clear and effective way.”

When used in conjunction with a Learning Management System the Adult Protection course will also allow organizations to track, monitor and report on the status of staff completing the course.

The new course will join SAI Global’s broad range of Compliance Awareness and Training offerings which also include Data Protection, Information Security, Diversity, Freedom of Information and Ethics.
